Master of Science in Business Administration

 The Master of Science in Business Administration  is composed of: 

  • an obligatory part of general business administration, which consists of at least two majors (so-called “SBWL”; 20 ECTS each; three are also possible) and
  • a compulsory part in terms of an optional subject from the fields of economics, statistics, econometrics, or informatics (more than one possible).

As major subjects students may choose between:

  • corporate finance,
  • entrepreneurship and innovation management,
  • marketing,
  • organization theory and design
  • accounting and auditing,
  • supply chain management and
  • technology management.

Each specializing subject (major/SBWL) in business administration consists of different lectures and additional seminar(s) (at least one seminar and three lectures have to be taken). Besides its functional contents, the seminar imparts knowledge and practices about techniques regarding research, lecturing, and moderating the functional discussion.

When all required courses and the master thesis are passed so that 120 LPs are acquired, the master examination is passed. The processing time for the master thesis is six months; the regular time of study for the master's program is four semesters.

This showing of the master's study structure is only due to information and is not affecting your choices. Nonetheless, for specialization, it is recommended to focus on one major (SBWL) and complement it with other modules.

Application Process

The University of Kiel (or CAU) is a learning community devoted to enabling close interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary collaboration between four priority research areas: KMS - Kiel Marine Science, KLS - Kiel Life Science, KiNSiS - Kiel Nano Surface & Interface Science, and SECC - Societal and Cultural Change.

The University of Kiel is one of only 17 top German universities and two university consortia that offer internationally designed degrees to around 25,000 students. Hence, the university management will continue to rely on the participation of the various groups with an effective strategy of excellence.

CAU offers over 190 courses of study at the undergraduate and graduate levels. At CAU, all bachelor's degree programs are being just taught in German but various master’s degree programs are provided in English as well. Also, the university has several institutions that offer services to doctoral students and specific offers for foreign doctoral students. The institute has 8 faculties. With 21 integrated subjects, future teachers enjoy excellent specialist training and have very good prospects in teaching, learning, and educational research.

  • The institute opens applications for summer and winter sessions.
  • CAU has managed to set some specific application deadlines for admissions at different degree levels.
  • While submitting applications through Hochschulstart, if students get their university entrance qualification after January 16 of the year they are applying, the application can still be submitted until July 15.
  • The next winter term starts November 2, 2020, and ends February 26, 2021.
  • Applicants are required to upload all the supporting documents while submitting applications via Uni-ASSIST or Hochschulstart.
  • There are a limited number of endowments offered by the university in the form of scholarships.
  • Transcripts must be electronically mailed or sent in a sealed envelope for all educational institutions attended.

COVID-19 Admission Updates

  • The digital courses already taking place are to be continued in this form until the end of the summer semester.
  • In the summer semester of 2020, the "virtual attendance" will not be checked when courses that are subject to attendance are carried out digitally, since technical problems can arise, particularly in video conferences and similar formats with special technical requirements
