Masters in Chemistry
The course also includes career-related additional qualification modules or, if you are aiming for a career in teaching, teacher training modules (Education Studies, Didactics and German as a Second Language): total of 30 CP. The bachelor’s course with teacher training differs slightly, with 80 CP for the relevant core subject including bachelor’s thesis, 60 CP for the relevant second subject and 40 CP for teacher training. This applies to the areas of teaching L1 or L2 (Master of Education amounting to 60 CP) or special school teachers (L3, Master of Education amounting to 90 CP).
Students will acquire a theoretical and methodological grounding based on practical laboratory work, including inorganic, organic, physical and analytical chemistry, as well as biochemistry and structural chemistry. Students will also learn about the concepts that link the various sub-fields of chemistry. The intended outcome is for students to be able to teach chemistry in a school following completion of a postgraduate master’s programme.
Students will also be introduced to initial experimental skills and gain the ability to think independently with regard to scientific topics and experimentation. The teacher training modules prepare students for teaching chemistry in schools. The programme lays the foundation for a post-graduate master’s programme for chemistry teachers with the relevant combination of subjects.
