2 years standard period of study until graduation as Master of Science (M.Sc.); A total of 120 credit points (analogous to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System - ECTS) must be acquired. The individual length of study can differ from the standard study time.

Course structure

The course is taught in English. The study and examinations are to be provided in English.

The course is divided into:

  • Introductory phase (1st semester)
  • Consolidation phase (2nd semester)
  • Specialization phase (3rd semester)
Within the specialization phase, a focus can be chosen from “Photonic Materials & Devices”, “Quantum Optics & Spectroscopy”, “Biomedical Photonics”, “Optical Systems” or “Solar Energy”.

The course ends with the master's thesis in the 4th semester, for which a processing time of six months is planned.

internship

During the master’s degree, an eight-week industrial internship is to be completed, which is suitable for imparting practical industrial experience in optics & photonics to the students. The students apply on their own responsibility to the KSOP industrial partners or other suitable private or public institutions where the internship can be completed. At the end of the industrial internship, a short report is to be submitted and a brief presentation of the experience gained during the industrial internship.

We recommend completing the internship between the 2nd and 3rd semester, but it can also be completed after the 3rd semester before the start of the master's thesis.
