  • By studying a master’s degree as part of the ISE study program, the scientific qualification acquired through a previous bachelor’s degree is deepened and expanded in the sense of increasing technical complexity through the expansion of specialist knowledge and the practice of special specialist methods. As part of the consecutively designed ISE study program, the master’s examination forms a second professional qualification, which significantly expands professional perspectives compared to the bachelor’s degree. The master’s examination determines whether the students have acquired the advanced specialist knowledge, skills and methods necessary for the transition to professional practice, have an overview of more comprehensive subject-specific contexts and have the ability to to analyze engineering problems in the area of the selected course of study and to independently develop and apply scientific methods and findings to describe or solve them. Passing the master’s examination also allows admission to a doctorate and thus enables a scientific career.

A particular aim of the master’s courses in ISE is to prepare graduates for the global job market or research and development in an international context. This is achieved through the specialist orientation of the degree programs or certain components in the degree programs.

    Power engineering:

The aim of training in the “Power Engineering” profile is to prepare students for demanding activities in management, research and teaching in the field of energy technology. After broad basics are required through a corresponding bachelor's degree, the knowledge should be deepened in

  • the higher mathematics and numerical mathematics required for demanding technical subjects as well as in electromagnetic field theory,
  • the technical subjects that serve as the basis for more demanding job profiles in electrical engineering and information technology and
  • the technical profile subjects that should allow a demanding job in the field of electrical power engineering and automation technology.
  • The following specific goals are aimed at:

  • the ability to familiarize yourself with theoretically demanding topics,
  • the ability to solve demanding tasks that require extensive theoretical aids in modeling, synthesis and simulation.
  • The study in the master’s course “Power Engineering” expands the basic knowledge from the bachelor’s course “Electrical and Electronic Engineering” to include advanced theory in the areas of mathematics and statistics, theoretical electrical engineering and energy technology. Building on this, areas of high voltage and energy technology are dealt with and the economic aspects of operating the corresponding systems. Selected topics on alternative energy sources, electives and a practical project as well as the master's thesis on practical testing round off the course.

This prepares the graduates primarily for the following professional fields:

  • Research into innovative technologies in energy technology, especially considering different energy resources and economic aspects,
  • Use of these results in industrial practice in the development and operation of novel concepts for energy supply,
  • Management positions in industry in the development and operation of systems for energy generation and supply.

  • The Power Engineering Master's degree aims to prepare students for demanding roles in management, research and academia in the area of power engineering
